What to expect from the trail
- We would not advise visiting this trail in rainy seasons, especially just after heavy rains, as the small stream of Avgas River becomes strong, flooding the majority of the trail.
- The easiest time to master this route is the end of August to mid-October, when it has not rained in Cyprus for a long time.
- The part of the trail the above the Canyon has no shade, thus it gets really hot under the sun.
- Inside the gorge, it is cooler than outside by a few degrees, and it is mostly shady.
- The route in the gorge goes over slippery boulders and you have a huge chance of getting your shoes soaked from stepping into the cold stream.
- There are picnic tables, benches and public toilets near the parking at the beginning of the route. Sometimes, even a food truck comes there.
- At the end of the gorge, you will see steps that lead up the canyon to a view overlooking the entire Avakas Gorge. There are benches for you to rest on before your journey back. For the location pin, click here.
- It is a very popular route so don't expect to be there alone.
- Don't forget to look up to see wild mountain goats on steep walls of the canyon!
