AVAKAS GORGE LINEAR NATURE TRAIL
Avakas Gorge Linear Nature Trail is a highly popular and adventurous hiking route located in the Paphos district, perfect for those who enjoy a challenge and aren't afraid to get a little wet. The linear nature of the trail means that you hike to the end of the gorge and then retrace your steps, experiencing the stunning scenery from both directions.
The difficulty level of the trail varies significantly depending on the season and the amount of water flowing through the Avgas River, which winds its way through the gorge. During winter and spring, the trail can be particularly challenging as the river swells, often flooding parts of the path, making it an exciting adventure for those willing to navigate through the water. In contrast, summer and autumn offer a different experience, with the river almost drying out, revealing a completely different landscape within the gorge.

- The last few kilometers of the road to the parking areas are dirt roads with uneven surfaces and dust.
- There are three parking options. One is just near the trail start.For the location pin, click here.
- The other two are in 0.6-1 km walking distance from the trail start. You can use them in case main parking is full or it is impossible to get to it by car due to bad roads and road closure. For the location pin, click here and here.
- We would not advise visiting this trail in rainy seasons, especially just after heavy rains, as the small stream of Avgas River becomes strong, flooding the majority of the trail.
- The easiest time to master this route is the end of August to mid-October, when it has not rained in Cyprus for a long time.
- Inside the gorge, it is cooler than outside by a few degrees, and it is mostly shady.
- The vast part of the route goes over slippery boulders, and you have a high chance of getting your shoes soaked from stepping into the cold stream.
- There are picnic tables, benches and public toilets near the parking at the beginning of the route. Sometimes, even a food truck comes there.
- At the end of the gorge, you will see steps that lead up the canyon to a view overlooking the entire Avakas Gorge. There are benches for you to rest on before your journey back. For the location pin, click here.
- It is a very popular route so don't expect to be there alone.
