LARNACA SALT LAKE TRAIL

Do not miss the chance to explore an area steeped in history, with evidence of habitation dating back to the Late Bronze Age. In the 7th century AD, significant events that hold importance in the Muslim world occurred near Larnaca Salt Lake, and were commemorated in the mosque complex. From medieval times until 1986, salt from the lake served as a key export product for Cyprus. Now, you have the freedom to visit and explore this historically rich location.

  • If you're traveling by car, there are parking opportunities near both ends of the walk.

What to expect from the walk
  • The walk is possible year-round, although it is not advisable to go there during the daytime in summer, as it can be unbearable due to the heat.
  • There is no shade on the walk.
  • The path is broad and in good condition.
  • There are several benches on the walk.
  • This path is popular with both tourists and locals who jog and walk their dogs.
  • In winter the lake serves as a temporary home to flamingoes and other migrating birds. Combine hiking with birdwatching!
  • In summer the lake completely dries out.
